Date of Passing: Sep 14, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPAULINE NEMBHARD It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our wonderful and cherished wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend, Pauline Nembhard, on September 14, 2009, after a courageous four year battle with cancer. Her passing was quick and peaceful, just as she would have wanted it - unexpected at the time, but she was surrounded by family - those who love her dearly. Pauline was predeceased by her parents Cyrus and Louisa Nicholson. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 42 years, Raymond; daughters Kemlin and Jennifer; sisters Yvonne, Pat (Norma), Jackie (Claudette); brothers Carl and Hugh; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. Pauline was born in Jamaica. She graduated from the University of West Indies, and taught High School before immigrating to Canada with her husband and first child. She taught in Winnipeg, and was director of a child care centre for 22 years. Pauline was an active and committed person, a restless soul who lived in the moment and liked to keep busy. Her contributions in the community were many, including: Past church warden and vestry member and member of the choir at St. Mary Magdalene Church; volunteer at Creative Retirement, and in the Refugee community; active and past Executive member of the Jamaican Association of Manitoba; singer with the Jamaican Folk Ensemble; Mary Kay representative; active in the cultural community e.g. Black History Month Committee, the Congress of Black Women - Manitoba Chapter, the Caripeg Committee; playing steel pan, reciting Jamaican dialect poetry (some written by her) and much more. Actress, singer, dancer, storyteller; teacher; loving and patient wife, mother and friend to many, we shall miss her smile and warmth, her wisdom and patience, her humour and vivacious personality. And while we mourn her loss, we are grateful and can rejoice in knowing that she is on her next big and better adventure, and she is surely having a grand time! The family would like to thank Dr. Latocki, other doctors and Nursing staff at the Cancer Care Unit at the St. Boniface Hospital for the wonderful care and compassion given to Pauline over the last four years; also the staff of the Emergency Department and of Ward B3 of the St. Boniface Hospital for their care and attention during her last visit and stay there. Sincere gratitude to her Naturopath, Dr. Chris Turner for his caring treatment, inspirational support and humour that he has shown to her over the past two years. A memorial service for Pauline will be held on Friday, September 25, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church, 3 St. Vital Road, with reception to follow. Flowers gratefully decline. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in Pauline's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7 or to the St. Mary Magdalene Building Fund, St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church, 3 St. Vital Road, Winnipeg, MB.
